The 2013 Australian Cider awards were the most keenly contested cider awards in Australia with over 160 entrants competing.
Bilpin Cider Co was delighted to have featured prominently in the final awards with both of our brands winning awards.
Bilpin Pear was awarded a Silver medal in class scoring a total of 51 points and being described by the judges as “Leesy, yeasty, bready character, good perry”.
Bilpin Original Cider earned a Bronze medal and scored 48 points and the judges described it as “Pleasant, delicate, nice, citrusy, gripping”.
The judging panel this year had an international flavour with guest judge Gary Awdey, President of the United States Great Lakes Cider Association as well as award winning wine writer and backyard cider maker, Max Allen presiding.
The Managing Director of Bilpin Cider Co, Sean Prendergast was delighted with the result.
“We were delighted and pleasantly surprised to have featured in the medal count” said Prendergast. “This result however is vindication of the work that we have done over the past 12 months and endorses the decision that we have made to invest in the Bilpin region. Our plan is to spend up to $2.5 million over the next 3 years building our Cidery and restaurant and developing a sustainable farm proposition for the restaurant offering.”
